A basic mechanics reference: breeding and the Koi Pellets item.
A short, factual wiki for K's Koi Mod, covering only what the source implements: the nine-colour breeding ladder and the one custom item, Koi Pellets.
Breeding
Feed Koi Pellets to two adult koi to put them into love mode. Each fed adult stays in love mode for 600 ticks (30 seconds), looks for a mate of its kind within 8 blocks, and swims to it. When a pair meets, one of them spawns the litter, then both enter a breeding cooldown of 6000 ticks (5 minutes) before they can breed again. Breeding also drops 1 to 7 experience.

Each fry rolls its colour independently (see the ladder below). Fry grow into adults after 24000 ticks (20 minutes). Feeding a fry Koi Pellets speeds its remaining growth by about 10% per feed.
The colour ladder
Koi come in nine colours arranged as a ladder, from black at the bottom to violet at the top. Each colour has three skin patterns; a koi's pattern is cosmetic, decided from its own identity rather than inherited. Koi that spawn in the wild are black, the bottom rung.

How colour passes to fry
- Same-colour parents: the fry keeps that colour, with a 10% chance to be promoted one rung up the ladder. Promotion is capped at violet, the top rung.
- Different-colour parents: the fry inherits one parent's colour at random (a 50/50 coin flip), with no promotion.
- Because each fry rolls independently, a single breeding can produce fry of mixed results.
So climbing the ladder means pairing koi of the same colour and breeding repeatedly, since only same-colour pairs can promote a fry to the next rung.

Recipe
Shapeless crafting: 1 bone meal plus 1 wheat seeds yields 4 Koi Pellets.
Uses
- Breed adults: feed pellets to two adult koi to start breeding (see above).
- Raise fry: feed pellets to a fry to speed its growth by about 10% per feed.
- Lure and school: hold pellets and any koi within 10 blocks swim toward you and gather. They keep following while you hold the pellets and stay within about 12 blocks; crowding at the water's edge can beach a few.
